I review ஐ

[Disclaimer: This post contains some minor spoilers and some disgusting content (narrating the disgusting content of the movie) and may thus be not appropriate for everyone (like the movie). I didn't like the movie and my review may be biased. Reader's discretion is required.]

I think, when directors think about creating a movie, they have some key selling point in their mind, and sadly that is the not the story or screenplay in case of most of the Tamil movie directors. Some of the key selling points Shankar might have had in his mind could be Vikram's weight gain (not like the junk Nutrigain advertisement, but real body building), Vikram's weight loss, 2 hours of Amy Jakson's cleavage and 2 minutes of Amy Jackson's bikini shoot, Weta Workshop's make up (to be greatly advertised), beautiful locations in China, roof top cycle fight (for no apparent reasons), and showing some disturbing deformed people (who would live a painful horrible life).

But, I don't know how 'a transgender molesting and constantly trying to do Vikram for at least 15 minutes' came to Shankar's mind. I don't hate or reserve any opinions about transgenders. I understand, that they are also humans and have feelings. But certainly I would want to see one kissing, feeling, pressing the hero's chest against his will for sooo looonnng. A couple of minute for comedic sense would be tolerable, but this movie went too fu*king far. Of course, I mean no disrespect or hatred for transgenders, just that I am not comfortable seeing such scenes and I am sure many others were too. I could hear people shouting that those scenes be over soon in theatre.

There is nothing to the story. A group of people take revenge on Vikram by deforming and taking away his appearance and he does the same to all the people involved in that, just that he does it differently for everyone. And of course, the heroine accepts him in the situation and still takes care of him.

About the fight sequences:  There are a lot of fight sequences. The roof top cycle fight was absurd. No damn reason for that fight to be on roof top and the BGM for the fight was so cheap, like a Grade 3 childish classical music. The fight, the situation was so ridiculous that ARR conformed with that silliness with the BGM. Instead of full fledged copy, only a few sequence from Matrix 2 fight was copied (yes, from the 12 years old movie).

And in another fight sequence "Ip man" movie was copied. The hero was getting beaten by over weight thugs using iron rods on his face. Honestly (I swear on

God), I thought Vikram became like that because of those beatings. But no! He fights back and beats them all. Of course, by now, we are all tuned to accept this. Not just in this fight, in many other fight sequences, Vikram gets beaten by iron weapons on his face over and over and over and over again and again and again and again. Seriously, if the villains had IQ of over 50, they would have tried hitting him in some other parts. I sincerely wish Tamil cinema goes past this stupid fight sequences.

The Werewolf/Gorilla/Goat makeup song had horrible visuals. Such a good song spoiled by the unnecessary makeup. Vikran could have come in his deformed form in this song too. Would have made sense. Overall, the movie was unnecessarily obscene, lenghty, without any soul. Vikram has acted very well, had worked hard. Amy Jackson has acted well (hundred times better than Hansika).

But if someone says "I didn't see the twist coming" or "I was blown away by the twist towards the end", probably, they are paid or haven't seen many movies. The twist was not a twist at all, extremely predictable. My verdict would be, wait till the movie length (and the ticket price) goes down and ask your friends who give honest and clost-to-your-taste feedback about this movie and then go. You can watch it (with some difficulty) once in theater. Of course, this is all IMHO.

படம் பாக்குறதுக்கு முன்னாடியே இதுதான் blog title னு முடிவுபன்னிடேன்.ஆனா intervel வரைக்கும் படம் பாத்துட்டு 'ச்ச ரொம்ப மொக்கையா இல்லையே அந்த title வைக்க முடியாதேனு' நெனச்சேன். Second half start ஆன கொஞ்ச நேரத்துலயே எனக்கு கொஞ்சம் மகிழ்ச்சி வந்துடுச்சு... வேற title யோசிக்க வேண்டாம்னு. முடியல.

இந்த படத்துல வர ஒவ்வொரு scene ம் எங்கையோ பாத்த மாறியே இருக்கும்...
ஆனா அதையே கொஞ்சம் மொக்கையா மாத்துன மாறி இருக்கும்... படம் start ஆன உடனே lightaa"தளபதி" படம் மாறி இருந்துச்சு... அதுல அம்மா வேற வழி இல்லாம பையன பிரியுறாங்க train மூலம் , இங்க அப்பா பிரியுராறு... பாட்டு ஒன்னு வருது... sentiment பாட்டு...

அதுக்கு அப்புறம் hero intro song... சுமாரான song... ரொம்ப சுமாரான dance... திடீர்னு பாத்தா  Vodofone ஓட மொக்க ad பாதுருபீங்க "Carzy Feet"... அத ad ல பாத்தபோதே வெளங்கல... அது படத்துல வரும்... ஒரு மொக்க step... அத  பாத்து ஆஸ்திரேலியாவே அரண்டு போய்டுச்சுன்னு... முடியல... ஆனா உடனே சந்தானம் comes for the rescue... கொஞ்சம் ஒகே வான comedy.. Heroine intro வாந்தி வரும்... எப்பதாண்டா heroine அ normal ஆ காட்டுவீங்க? பட்டாம்பூச்சி புடிக்குராங்கலாம்... Syndney ல நடு ரோட்டுல... முடியல... But at least அதுக்கு ஒரு explanation irukku..

First Half ஆனா கொஞ்சம் நல்லா போகும்... சந்தானம் காமெடி கொஞ்சம் okay... "புன்னகை மன்னன்" கொஞ்சம் lightaa உள்ள வரும்... Usual தமிழ் படம் மாறி போகும்... First half முடிய போறதுக்கு முன்னாடி திடீர்னு ஆதிபகவன் படம் போடுவாங்க... Actual லா என்னக்கு first half okay தான்... ஆனா அதுக்கே theatre ல நெறையா பேர் பொலம்ப ஆரம்பிச்சிடாங்க... படம் மொக்கைனு...பாவம் அந்த மக்கள்.. second half பத்தி தெரியல :)

Second Half ஆனா முடியல... ரொம்ப ஓவரு... Especially அந்த "தலைவா தளபதி"

song... கெட்ட கெட்ட வார்த்தையா வரும்... ஓவர் buildup... விஜய் நடந்தாலோ இல்ல பேசினாலோ எல்லாமே slow motion... முடியல.. "நீங்க 'அண்ணா 'வையே மிஞ்சிடீங்கங்கறது" எல்லாம் ரொம்ப ரொம்ப too much.. அரசியல் பேசலாம்... ஆனா இந்த மாறி பேசுறது எல்லாம் too much...

பேய் படத்துல night பேய் வரமாதிரியே ரொம்ப நேரம் வந்தா செம கடியா இருக்கும்... அப்ப next scene பகல் ஆச்சுனா செம relief ஆ இருக்கும்... அந்த மாறிதான் சந்தானம் second half வந்தோன இருந்துச்சு... ஆனா பகல்ல நடக்குறது கொஞ்ச நேரத்துலயே முடிஞ்சி மருபுடியும் night ஆயுடுற மாறி காமெடி யும் கொஞ்ச நேரம் தான் வந்துச்சு...

Hero வில்லன outsmart பண்றது வில்லன் Hero வ outsmart பண்றது... இதை எல்லாம் பல படத்துல பாத்துருப்போம்... வழக்கமா climax ல விஜய் on the spot ல fracture அ சரி பண்ணிகுவாறு... இந்த படத்துல ஒரு படி மேல போய் minor operation பண்ணிக்கிடாறு... வில்லன் கத்தியவுட்டு ஆட்டு ஆட்டுன்னு ஆட்டுறான் ஆனா விஜய் makeup கலையாம fight பண்றாரு...

மொத்ததுல: தலைவா = (நாயகன் + Vodofone Crazy Feet Ad + புன்னகை மன்னன்

+ஆதிபகவன் + தேவர் மகன் + அருள் + (a lot other Hari films) + Scary Movie + Gladitor (the way the final villain is killed)) multiplied by (விண்ணைத் தாண்டி வருவாயா - full slow motion second half)

நீங்க விஜய் ரசிகரா இருந்தா... விஜய் அரசியலுக்கு வரணும்னு ரொம்ப ஆசையா இருந்தா இந்த படம் உங்களுக்கு புடிக்கும்... என்ன மாறி விஜய் புடிக்காதவங்களுக்கு இந்த படம் just okay movie. கஷ்ட பட்டு ஒரு தடவ பாக்கலாம் (because of the first half)

Mariyan - 2.5 hours of brilliant acting and 1 hour of horrible editing

I should have loved this movie and recommended this movie to everyone... instead I am hesitating to even say I liked this movie and will  hesitate more to recommend this movie to my friends... all because of the poor pathetic editing in the second half of the movie. In the mission to show that all the actors are acting an award worthy performance, they lost track of the mission of the movie.

[This post contains some minor spoilers, nothing that you would not know by this time.] The problem with this movie is, the core of the movie varies with the many things it tried to tell. The core of the movie is the hero gets his strength to survive and escape from nearly impossible situation because of the love. But it drags waaaay toooooo muchhhhh to prove that.

During the 'supposed to be' most sensitive tragic painful scenes, people were laughing and making fun simply because they didn't care anymore. The second half is painfully lengthy and the bad guys didn't make any sense or impact in the movie. And simply taking an hour to establish that they are not fed was simply tooo muchhhhh. The villains saying they need money and they are poor didn't make any sense at all especially when they own soo much weapons. And The-Dark-Knight kinda pit to secure the hostages?!

But apart from the above said problems, the movie was brilliant. The acting was excellent. Parvathi deserves a special mention. Absolutely brilliant acting from everyone. The bold lip lock scene was actually very romantic. It is hard to see an actual romantic scene, when every other attempts in other movies were just to be vulgar in the current cinema.

If you want to take a leap of faith and try this movie, you will be partly disappointed and partly happy. Just try this movie, is what I can say.

First பாட்டுக்கும் second பாட்டுக்கும் நடுவுல 10 minutes தான் gap... செம கடி... வழக்கம் போல, In the biggest Mumbai city, எங்க விஜய் போனாலும் அங்க காஜல் வரது... இந்த மாறி மொக்க love track தான் படத்தையே கேவலமா ஆக்குது... காஜல் வந்தாலே அதுத்த பத்து நிமிஷத்துல பாட்டு வரும்னு இருக்கும்... இதுல என்ன புதுமை இருக்குனு என்னக்கு தெரியல...

கதை கொஞ்சம் வித்தியாசமான கதை... வில்லன் chancea இல்ல... விஜய்... வழக்கம் போல பாத்து பாத்து புளிச்சு போன அதே reaction and acting... நெறையா படத்துல பாத்த மாறியே வில்லன் போன் பண்ணி... 'டேய்... உன் friend இன்னும் 5 minutes ல seththuduvan னு மிரட்டுறது'... ஹீரோ போன் பண்ணி வில்லன out-smart பண்றது...

ஆனா... climax ல ஹீரோ sincere ஆ willing to sacrifice himself ரொம்ப நல்ல touch... பொதுவா நம்ப கிட்ட 'நான் போய் சாக போறேன்' னு சொல்லிட்டு ஆனா தப்பிகுறதுக்கு ஒரு plan வச்சுருபாங்க... ஆனா உண்மைலேயே சாக தயாரா hero போறது கொஞ்சம் நல்லா இருந்துச்சு...

மொத்ததுல நான் என்ன சொல்ல வரேன்ன... துப்பாக்கி ஒரு நல்ல படம் தான்... ஆனா விஜய் fans குடுக்குற build-up அளவுக்கு இல்ல... Still, நெறைய typical தமிழ் பட மொக்கை இருக்கும்... ஆனா considering other movies, கண்டிப்பா ஒரு தடவ பாக்கலாம் இந்த படத்த... குறைவான expectation ஓட போனீங்கன்னா, சந்தோசமா திரும்பி வருவீங்க...

 ஐயோ... தப்பா எடுத்துகாதீங்க... டான்னு போங்க 'கோ' படத்துக்குன்னு சொல்றததான் கொஞ்சம் சுருக்கி அப்புடி title வச்சுட்டேன்... எவ்வளவோ கேவலமான படத்துக்கு கஷ்டப்பட்டு blog எழுதுறோமே, ஒரு நல்ல படத்துக்கு எழுதலாம்னு தான்... சரி... விமர்சனத்துக்கு கோவோம்... sorry ... போவோம்... வளவளன்னு மொக்கைய போடாம சுருக்கமா எழுதிடுறேன்...

படத்தில் மிகவும் பிடித்தது:

• ஜீவாவின் நடிப்பு... ரொம்ப நல்லா நடிச்சிருக்கார்... இயல்பா அலட்டமா நடிச்சிருக்கார்.
• விறுவிறுப்பான திரைக்கதை... சும்மா heroine அ impress பண்றதுக்கு வளவளனு மொக்கைய போடாம, கதைக்கு தேவையான situation ஓட வரது ரொம்ப புதுமை...
• படத்தோட நடுவுல illogical ஆ இருக்குற விஷயங்கள் பின்னாடி புரியுறது நல்லா இருந்துச்சு
• என்னமோ ஏதோ பாடல்!!

பிடித்தது:

• இடைவேளைக்கு பிறகு ஒரு அஞ்சு நிமிஷம் thriller movie மாறி திகில கொடுத்தது super
• பியா வ கடைசி வரைக்கும் casual ஆ காட்டுனது. ஜீவா பியாவ love பண்ணலன்னு சொன்னோன 'இல்ல நான் உன்ன தான் love பண்ணுவேன்' னு மொக்கைய போடாம move on பண்ணது good.
• கார்த்திகா dinner போலாமானு கேட்ட ஒடனே ஜீவாவோட  படபடப்பு and the entire scene in the hotel reminded me of my story in my blog.
• எதிர் கட்சி தலைவரோட வில்லத்தனமான comedy சூப்பர்...
• Adult comedies அ  கூட ரொம்ப கொச்சையா சொல்லாம ரசிக்கும் படி சொன்னது.

பிடிக்காதது:

•  முதல் 10 நிமிஷம் ஹீரோ ஓட intro... Bike ல முன்னாடி பின்னாடி wheeling பண்ணி சாகசம் பண்றது... 
• என்ன பிரச்சனை நடந்தாலும் traffic அது பாட்டு freeya move ஆறது கொஞ்சம் முகம் சுளிக்க வச்சுது. [Especially, even after a bomb blast, the traffic was shown to move freely]
• கொள்ளை அடிச்ச அடுத்த நிமிஷமே எல்லாரும் முகமூடிய கழட்டி சிரிச்சு pose குடுக்குறது கொஞ்சம் இடிக்குது...

ரொம்ப கடிய கிளப்பிய விஷயங்கள்:

• கார்த்திகா வின் நடிப்பு... I mean , நடிகவே இல்லாதது... ஆனா நல்லவேளையா அதிக நேரம் நடிக்க chance தரள... அது வரைக்கும் ok தான். First படம் கிறதால  மன்னிச்சிடலாம்...
• ஒரு முக்கியமா கதாபாத்திரம் இறந்த ஒடனே ஒரு duet... அதுவும் அந்த duet start ஆற முன்னாடி ரெண்டு பெரும் சிரிச்சிகிட்டே duet குள்ள போறது செம கடி... [இப்ப தான டா அழுதுகிட்டு இருந்தீங்க... அதுக்குள்ள duet னா இளிப்பு வருதா? அப்புடீன்னு கேக்க தூணுது...]
• "என்ன நடந்துச்சுன்னு சொல்லு" அப்புடின்னு கேட்ட ஒடனே ஒரு பாட்டு... flashback நாளே பாட்டுத்தான் ஆரம்பிகனுமா? ஒரு படத்துக்கு அஞ்சு பாட்டுங்கர rules அ ஒழிச்சிட்டா ரொம்ப நல்லா இருக்கும்... இதுனாலேயே ஒரு படம்னா atleast ரெண்டு மொக்க பாட்டு இருக்குது... அதுக்காக ஒரு 10 நிமிஷம் மொக்க வேற... But this movie is much better to handle this 5-song-per-movie rule

என்னக்கு என்னமோ இந்த படம் ரொம்ப புடிச்சிருந்துச்சு... Company இருந்தா இன்னொரு தடவ கூட போய் பாக்கலாம்னு இருக்கேன்... So, நீங்க இன்னும் இந்த படத்த பாக்கலேன்னா கண்டிப்பா போய் பாருங்க... பாத்துட்டு உங்க கருத இங்க பரிமாறுங்க...

How I Met Your Mother

Before telling anything about this serial I want to write about, I want to tell you a small incidence (which you can guess will have absolutely no bearing with anything this post has to convey). I was on call talking to my friend in Tamil in my office and after I cut the call, my colleague (and a good friend) who does not know Tamil asked me, "What was the word you used... something like 'theri ma'"? I told him it is a Tamil word 'Theriyuma' (தெரியுமா) which means 'do you know'. He told me, in Hindi 'Theri Maa' is a bad word which means 'Your (theri) Mother (maa)'. Ever since, I have to admit, I feel a little guilt and smile whenever I use that word and be careful that it does not sound like it and give more emphasis on TheriYUma.

Why I told about that incidence is that, 'your mother' is one of the most sensitive bad words. So, just by looking at the title of the serial and having known that it is an adult comedy genre, one may tend to think it is about a friend having met and got together with a friend's mother and narrating the story. Though it is an extreme perverted thought, a serial from Hollywood can do anything and go to any extent, as we know. But the thing is, this serial is NOT too much in adult comedy, and not too less to be viewed with family. Though there is nothing too much visually, almost all of the dialogues are related to sex in one way or another.

Oh... yes... I have to say something about the serial right? This is a narration of a father to his children about how he met his wife (their mother). It is not simply how he met his wife, but what are all the paths he went through before he met his wife. He tells about his best friends and about their life also. In fact, mostly about his friends' life. This being the theme, and one of his best friends being a complete pervert and a womanizer, and another friend being a very casual and open girl/woman and another two being a couple who are madly madly in love, all you can expect is hilarious jokes about/around sex.

I have to mention about the character Barney, who is the most amazing character in this serial. He is the driving factor and the most hilarious character in this serial. Yes, he is the pervert and his jokes are hilarious. Will I recommend this to my friends? Of course, yes. But not if don't like such comedy. But I would recommend/request you to try to watch at least the first 3 or 4 episodes (of the first season) before you decide anything about this. If you like it, the rest of the serial will be a treat to you. Try to watch it and share your views with me.
